The winter is here in SoCal. After the Christmas and Holiday Celebrations we can finally plan trips to play in the snow.

That is why on January 1st after the Rose Parade in Pasadena, we decided start our winter day trips, taking to our little family to Lake Arrowhead, California.
Lake Arrowhead is in the San Bernardino Mountains of San Bernardino County, California, by the San Bernardino National Forest, and surrounding the Lake Arrowhead Reservoir. It is widely known as “The Alps of Southern California,” and my new fave snow play for our toddler destinations.
It is about 1.5 hours from Downtown L.A. and has everything you would like for a weekend, holiday stay, or just for a day trip like we did.
From the moment you go up the mountain, you get amazed with the spectacular views, excellent for the best photoshoots, ever.
Bride Tip: Check out this location for your wedding or engagement photoshoot, for amazing pictures.
As soon we arrived, we felt the Village give us a warming welcome. It was so charming that we immediately thought, “We need to come back next weekend.”
For any trip you plan: a day trip, a weekend or a vacation stay, you are covered. There is a shopping center with a Stater Brothers grocery store, dining for all tastes, fast food restaurants, and entertainment dining.
Of course in this season the special attraction is the snow play, snow activities, etc. But, the lake has little cruises to explore around. And, every season they have special events too.
We walked around the lake and fed the ducks. Yup, they sell duck food pretty cheap and that was so fun to do with a toddler.
They have a little play area with go-carts and carousel. However, during the snow season it is closed. But it us something you can have in mind if you plan to go in spring, which I am sure is going to have so much entertainment also.
The best part about the Village is we don’t need to drive around. We can park and find everything around us. It was so easy to walk the entire Village, take some pictures, feed the ducks, have lunch, and then find a snow play area for the best winter play day to start the new year.
You are going to feel tempted to stop on the side the road and play in the snow on you way to the Village, which was more than we expected. However, I can tell you that if you drive a little more, not only will you find better parking in the Village, but everything is there. Even public restrooms, so you can change your wet clothes. There are a couple public restrooms around the Village area.
If you are planing to stay the weekend, they have hotels, B&Bs, and Airbnb places at fantastic prices. As I said, they have a shopping center and a beautiful church, in case you go on the weekends.
We got there early, so we came back before sunset. And let me tell you. The view coming down the mountain during sunset is magical.
